What Types Of Dance Should I Learn For A Dance Degree?

Ballet is the foundation of all dance, and will GREATLY improve your technique in any style! It'll make you a much stronger dancer, and the audition at UCI is a combination of ballet and jazz. I would absolutely pick up ballet, which will allow you to feel confident in doing everything technically correct. Modern is also a great tool, though not many cles are around (surprisingly!) Jazz complements ballet and hip hop nicely as well, infusing the technique of ballet with the fun freedom of hip hop! Overall, pick up ballet to round up your technique, and beyond that, expose yourself to as much dance as possible! Good luck!
